Buikwe, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT  |  Uganda Martyrs Women football club have kicked off the FUFA Women Super League-FWSL on a positive note with a 1-0 victory over She Mak WFC.

Both teams exhibited skilful football and played aggressive football in the pioneer game of this season at the FUFA technical center in Buikwe district.

Uganda Martyrs earned a spot-kick in the 72nd minutes when their striker, Anita Namata was fouled in the 18-yard box. Kevin Nakachwa easily converted the penalty giving Uganda Martyrs their sole goal in the 76th minute.

Gloria Nambuya, the Uganda Martyrs team captain says that this win serves as a warning signal to all clubs they are yet to meet. She, however, says that some players are facing fitness challenges following the long holiday.

The She Mak captain, Salma Namilimu says they tried to stick to their initial game plan but a few avoidable mistakes cost them today’s game. She, however, says despite the early loss, they still focused on winning this year’s title.
