Four civil servants in Apac district on spot for engaging in politics

Apac, Uganda |  THE INDEPENDENT |  Four civil servants of Apac District Local Government are on spot for meddling in politics.

The four who have allegedly been seen in public campaigning for some aspirants in Apac district include; Innocent Abongo, the Apac district Acting Probation Officer, Frank Ogwang, the Acting Sub County Chief of Chegere Sub County, Wilbert Obala, the Ibuje Sub County Chief and Andrew Omadi Omara, the Office Assistant.

In a copy of the petition to the Apac Chief Administration Officer by Talib Okabo, the Apac District NRM Chairperson dated 21st October, 2020, it is alleged that the four civil servants have joined active politics.

It is alleged that Innocent Abongo, the Acting Probation Officer was pictured in the convoy of a UPC aspirant during the nominations of parliamentary candidates that took place on the 16th Oct, 2020 and offered his personal Carib car.

The petitioner alleges that Frank Ogwang, the Acting Sub County Chief was also photographed with the UPC convoy on the same nomination and went ahead to offer a saloon car white in color Reg. No. UBC 547B, while Wilbert Obala the Sub County Chief was also seen in the same convoy as well as Andrew Omadi Omara, the Office Assistant.

The petitioner further alleged that Andrew Omadi Omara, the Office Assistant whose is using Divine Radio to campaign for UPC candidates on air.

The petitioner Okabo is now demanding that the office of the Chief Administrative Officer to take immediate action against the officers within a period of 14 days, before legal actions are taken against the district.

However the accused civil servants have distanced themselves from the allegation.

Innocent Abongo, the Apac District Probation officer, says the allegation is baseless and lacks evidence. He said the allegation is simply brought with bad intention to try and defame him. 

Micheal Wanje, the Chief Administrative Officer of Apac district acknowledged receiving the petition. He says he is yet to investigate the allegation leveled against the civil servants and take appropriate actions in regard to the law. 

Public servants who intend to join active politics are required to tender in their resignation letters three months before joining any political party.
