The Independent Uganda: You get the Truth we Pay the Price
Jinja, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The UPDF Chief of Defense Forces, Gen. David Muhoozi has tasked East African Community member states to advocate for joint military operations which he says will strengthen security efforts within the region.
Presiding over the launch of 12th edition of East African command post exercise code-named “Ushirikiano Imara 2019,” Muhoozi argues that, the region is facing modern time insecurity challenges like illegal infiltration of small firearms and terrorism which should be jointly handled by all the partner states.
This years’ exercise has attracted 60 participants from the countries of Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Burundi and Kenya, whereas first-timers, South Sudan presented 13 participants.
The exercise is at aimed promoting security cohesion among east African community partner states ahead of peace support operations.
Muhoozi stresses that the participants will take advantage of the exercise their different potentials in jointly tackling the security challenges within the region.
He adds that the region is prioritizing security of its citizen and it can only secure its borders through joint military operations and information sharing.
Col. Gerald Butera, the representative of the EAC secretary says that the joint command post exercises improves operationality and the lessons learnt have been instrumental in handling peace support operations through the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
