🔴 STEEPLECHASE: Chemutai finishes 11th

Eugene, USA | THE INDEPENDENT | Peruth Chemutai finished 11th at the World Championships in 9:21.93, falling short of the performance that gave her Olympic glory at the Steeplechase in Tokyo last year.

Inspector of Police Chemutai, who is the first Ugandan woman to win an Olympic gold medal, was 13 seconds off the pace she run in Tokyo. At the Tokyo finals, she broke her national record (9:07:94.) in the 3000m steeplechase, a race popularized by Dorcus Inzikuru, who won gold at the World Championships in Helsinki 2005.

The race in Eugene was won by Kenyan born Kazakhstan Norah Jeruto in a new World Championships record of 8:53.02 .
