Woman in custody over alleged murder of co-wife

Pader, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The police in Pader district has arrested a woman for allegedly killing her co-wife in Nekneno village, Atoo Parish.

The suspect, Winnie Adoch allegedly stabbed Winnie Lawino to death using a knife in a cassava garden. Okot, a resident in the area reveals that the suspect who has been the second wife in the marriage is reported to have approached Lawino and requested her to sell her some cassava.

According to Okot, the two went to the cassava garden where Adoch stabbed Lawino.

The Bongtiko sub county LCIII chairperson John Bosco Lugela says that the deceased had multiple injuries on the neck, throat and head. He adds that the suspect after committing the crime reportedly went into hiding but later handed herself to the village LCI chairperson who took her to Pajule police station.

The Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson David Mudong Ongom says a post-mortem report conducted indicates that the deceased succumbed to over bleeding and grave injuries. He says that the deceased was stabbed four times in the neck.

Mudong says that investigations into the matter are ongoing and a charge of murder has been preferred against the suspect.
