Kakumiro, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The police in Kakumiro are holding a woman on allegations of murdering her husband.
The suspect has been identified as Gladys Tumwesigye 43, a resident of Katikara village, Katikara Parish in Katikara sub county of Kakumiro district while the deceased is Martine Ariho 32, a resident of the same area.
Available information obtained by Uganda Radio Network-URN indicates that on June 20th, 2024, the couple went to Katikara trading center to drink alcohol.
However, they picked a quarrel for unknown reasons while in the local bar which later resulted into a physical fight between the couple. Area residents intervened and stopped them from fighting.
Medard Lugelihe, the LCII Chairperson for Katikara parish says later, Tumwesigye mobilized some yet to be identified men in the area who went and attacked Ariho as he was going home. They reportedly hacked him severally on the head, face and the neck killing him on the spot. They later dumped his lifeless body in a rice garden in the same village.
The body was discovered lying in a pool of blood by children who had gone to guard the rice garden. The children alerted area residents who promptly went to the crime scene. Police was notified and immediately launched investigations into the brutal murder.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson says, they apprehended Tumwesigye on Saturday to help them with investigations as the hunt for other suspects who participated in the murder is ongoing stating that the suspect is cooperating well with detectives.
Hakiza says, the suspect who is currently locked up at the Kakumiro central police station will be arraigned before the court to be charged with murder once investigations are done.
Police picked up the body that was later transported to Kakumiro health Center IV for postmortem before it was handed over to the relatives for burial arrangements.
The postmortem report revealed that the deceased succumbed to over bleeding.
