THIS WEEK: Senior police officer Agasiirwe denied bail

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The General Court Martial on Feb.12 denied Nixon Agasiirwe, the former Commander of the Police Special Operations Unit bail saying he might interfere with investigations.

Agasiirwe who with eight others is accused of kidnapping and repatriating former Rwanda President’s Paul Kagame’s body guard Lt. Joel Mutabazi back to the country in 2013 without his consent was arrested in October last year but has since been denied bail.

Chairman of the Makindye based court martial Lt. Gen Andrew Guti said by Agasiirwe convincing his former boss Fortunate Habyara formerly at the Professional standards unit of the Police it was a clear indicator that he could interfere with witnesses.

Meanwhile, Agasiirwe has petitioned the High court protesting his trial in the army court but Guti says since the case involves a pistol and grenade which are only used by the army then they have the jurisdiction to handle the case as provided for in the UPDF Act.
