Entebbe, Uganda | PHILLIP CORRY |  Ronald Rugumayo has claimed the Pearl of Africa Sunshine Development tour tournament title at Entebbe Club by 4 strokes. The Ugandan ace won the first and inaugural Sunshine Development tour tournament in the country after carding 67, 64, 69 for a 13 under par score of 200.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling, and I really don’t know what to say,” a dumb-stuck Rugumayo said after notching his 3rd straight title in 3 weeks. “This win is not for me but for all Ugandans and all those who have played a part in making us reach this far in golf.”

Paul Chidale from Malawi finished tied for runner-up with scores of 9 under par 204 with Nigeria’s Godwin Okoko. England’s Matt Millar and Slade Pickering finished tied for fourth with scores of 8 under par 205.

Dlamini Nobulhle, from Eswatini, was the only lady professional golfer to complete the 54 holes of action and finished tied for 20th.

The POA Sunshine Development tour is part of the Sunshine tour, which is meant to develop the game in this region and the rest of Africa. It is an opportunity for African professional golfers to gain points and ranks to play on the Sunshine Tour.

The 4-day tour was sponsored by Exim Bank, Uganda Tourism Board, Vivo Energy, MTN Momo, MTN Uganda, Case Med Insurance, Aquafina and Castle Lite.
