Ugandan aviation industry soars need government support

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Ugandan aviation industry presented a united front, urging the government to provide crucial support for its continued growth and development. Key industry leaders highlighted the need for reduced taxes, increased infrastructure investment, and streamlined regulations to propel the sector to even greater heights.

Organized by the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), the meeting served as a platform for open dialogue and collaboration between aviation stakeholders. Leading the charge was UCAA Director General Fred Bamwesigye, who emphasized the vital role the industry plays in national development.

“Aviation is a critical engine for driving economic progress,” Bamwesigye stated. “By fostering connectivity, boosting tourism, and facilitating the movement of goods and services, it contributes significantly to the prosperity of nations. However, African airlines currently account for a mere 2.1% of global air traffic, highlighting the immense,”

Despite global challenges, Uganda’s aviation sector has demonstrated remarkable resilience, achieving pre-pandemic levels in both cargo and passenger traffic. Bamwesigye acknowledged this progress, outlining key milestones reached by the UCAA. However, he also stressed the need for continued government support to address existing challenges and unlock further growth opportunities.
