UCC to support the film industry

By Aloysious Kasoma

Nigerian Movie promoters have said that they are working with Uganda Communication Commission to fight piracy which has for long curtailed the growing industry.

Kingsley Paul Ukaegbu a Nigerian-US based movie producer said that piracy is affecting the movie market in Uganda and they are planning to secure the copy rights while working with the UCC.

“UCC told me to draw a road map for them to follow and the success of this will mean tapping into the bigger market in East Africa,” he said.

He added that they plan to introduce structures with UCC that will help actors, producers, directors and scriptwriters to be commissioned.

“Uganda has no access to funds because structures are not in place, we are working with UCC and we have already secured the market here,” he added

The Nigerian Nollywood is working closely with Ugandan artists Halima Namakula, Faridah Ndausi, Yasin Lubowa among others.

According to Clem Ohamaze a Nigerian popular movie actor who featured in the Billionaire’s Club, the Inter agreement between Uganda and Nigeria will bear fruits and Uganda will produce the best actors in the next five years.

“Uganda has great talent, virgin land and beautiful location and people are hospitable, we have quite a lot of projects coming latest in February and we are working with artists from Tanzania and Kenya, ” he said.
