Thousands get free treatment at Kabaka coronation medical camp

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | More than 2000 people have received free treatment at the medical camp organised as the part of the activities commemorating the 26th coronation anniversary of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi. A team of medics has pitched camp at Katabi Town council headquarters in Wakiso town to attend to attend to people with various ailments.

The medical camp attracted people from Bendegere, Kitala, Katabi – Busambaga, Kisubi, Mpala, Kyankolokolo and other cells within Entebbe municipality and Katabi town council.

Some of the services offered at the camp included treatment for diabetes, hypertension, hepatitis and HIV testing and counseling and cervical cancer checkups among others.

Ivan Kalibala, the head of the medical camp, said the medical team was overwhelmed by the huge turn up of people seeking medical services at the camps.

He explained that most of the patients suffered from malaria and trachoma.

Some of the beneficiaries of the free medical camp expressed appreciation for the organisers. Alex Kisaakye, one of the patients said he had finally received treatment for trachoma after waiting for three years at Entebbe referral hospital.

The main coronation event is scheduled for tomorrow at Nkumba university. However, the Kabaka has already toured several cultural sites. He has so far visited the headquarters of the Fumbe Clan at Bakka, Kasanje Town council, along the Kasanje Nakawuka road.

He also visited the seat of the Mamba Clan located in Sagala, Buwaya also in Kasanje town, Bulega village along Garuga road in Katabi town council, where he financed the construction of a house worth Shillings 20 million for his subject, Abubaker Ssentongo.

This according to the first deputy Katikiro Twaha Kawaase is Kabaka’s appreciation to the kind work done by Ssentongo in Katabi town council. Mutebi was crowned the King of Buganda on July 31st 1993 at Naggalabi Buddo in Busiro County.
