Sub county chief knocked dead in hit and run accident

Ngora, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Police in Ngora district are looking for a driver who knocked dead the Sub County Chief of Kapir, John Stephen Olemunyang. He was knocked by a speeding car along Soroti- Mbale road on Saturday night when he was riding back home from Mukura trading center to Kapir Sub County headquarters.

Bonny Ocen, the Sub County Chairperson of Agirigiroi, the new sub-county carved from Kapir said that they received information about the accident around midnight. “We rushed to the scene and found the body of the deceased and the motorcycle alone. The driver who knocked him is nowhere to be found but the Police are hunting for him, ” he said.

According to Ocen, the deceased was lying in his lane, an indicator that the driver could have been drinking or overspending on the road. Moses Mwanga Kitio, the East Kyoga Regional Police Commander says the accident was a hit-and-run but they are hopeful that the CCTV cameras on the road will be able to identify the car and the driver.

Olemunyang who was riding the office motorcycle registration No. LGOO21-092 was reportedly knocked around 10:00 pm. His body was taken to Ngora Fred Carr Hospital for postmortem before being handed over to the family.
