Kotido, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | A student of Uganda Management Institute-Mbale campus has been shot dead by suspected rustlers in Panyangara sub county, Toror hills along Kotido-Moroto road.

The deceased has been identified as William Lopeyok, a 35 year old resident of Kotido district pursuing Post graduate diploma in project planning and management. Lopeyok’s body was found lying in a pool of blood along the road on Friday by travelers.

Emmanuel Okeng, a friend to the deceased said Lopeyok was killed on Friday afternoon while returning back to school for the weekend programme.

He said the deceased was riding a motorcycle from Kotido to Moroto district where he was expected to board a bus, but unfortunately he met his death along the way.

Okeng says he learnt the sad news late in the evening that the body of an unidentified man was lying in a pool of blood along Kotido-Moroto road but only to find it was his friend.

“I’m too frustrated, even right now we are holding prayers for him from school here, everyone is just paralyzed because William has been a very good friend to all of us,’’ Okeng said.

Micheal Longole, the Mt Moroto Regional Police Spokesperson confirmed the incident saying the police have launched investigations into the matter.

According to Longole, police visited the scene and took the body to Kotido health centre IV for postmortem. The motive of this murder is not yet established, though relevant statements have been recorded as the inquiries continue.

Longole added that as joint security forces, they shall continue hunting for the assailants and anyone with relevant information that can lead to the arrest of these suspects can inform the police.

The incident comes a week after another pupil was shot dead and two injured by suspected warriors along Abim-Kotido road.
