Soroti East by-election: NRM candidate emabarks on door to door campaigns

Soroti, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Herbert Edmund Ariko, the National Resistance Movement-NRM party candidate in the Soroti East by-election on Thursday held door-to-door campaigns to lure potential voters.

Ariko reached out to voters in their homes and business premises. He says that he wants to redeem the new city from the hands of opposition whom he notes have opposed the development of the area. His manifesto is about the socio-economic transformation through the Parish Development Model and other government programs that are currently being implemented by the NRM government.

“We need a conducive city for all. Visitors coming to Soroti city now are welcomed by the garbage that is littered up to Opuyo (the boundary between Soroti City and the district). We cannot allow this to continue when we are in charge. My leadership is action driven and I pledge to deliver on all the commitments I make to you”, Ariko told an elderly couple in Pioneer ward.

Roger Mulindwa, the NRM Senior Communications specialist says door-to-door is one of the campaign strategies by the party to woo voters. He notes that a number of voters are not able to attend campaign rallies.

Mary Asio, an elder in Pioneer ward says the approach by the NRM party is humane and considerate of voters who may not be able to attend the campaign rallies.

Deo Nakutunda, the Regional Elections Officer for Eastern Uganda says the campaigns have commenced peacefully without any cases of violence or security involvement in running battles with supporters.
