Rukungiri, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Police in Rukungiri district have in detention three family members on allegations of killing their family head.

Elly Maate, the Kigezi region police spokesperson identified the deceased as Godfrey Mugisha, 58, resident of Kahimbi cell, Kikarara parish, Bwambara sub county in Rukungiri district.

Those in detention to help police in investigations are Tumushabe Beatrice, Banturaki Beinomugisha, and Tumwesigye Lawrence, wife and sons respectively to the deceased.

Maate says the couple have had a long-running and violent domestic dispute which they suspect to have resulted into the killing.

Information gathered by the police indicates that on April 18th, 2021, Mugisha burnt Tumushabe’s clothes and further chased her away on accusation of engagement in multiple love affairs.

Mugisha remained alone until April 23rd, 2021, when a bad smell emanating from his residence aroused suspicion. It is reported that his son Banturaki and another brother, 37 year old Kyokushaba Alex together broke into the house and found their father dead.

Maate adds that the two later reported the matter to Kikarara police post which visited the scene, did the postmortem, and concluded Mugisha’s death resulted from strangulation.

The case of death by strangulation was filed at Rukungiri central police station under reference number CRB765/2021.
