Kabale, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Independent Presidential Candidate, Fred Mwesigye on Tuesday failed to show up for his campaigns in Kigezi sub-region.
According to a revised electoral commission campaign program, Mwesigye was on Monday scheduled to campaign in the districts of Kisoro, Rubanda, Kabale and Ntungamo districts. On Tuesday he was scheduled to campaign in Kanungu, Rukungiri and Mitooma districts.
However, he did not show up to woo support. Mwesigye did not pick our reporter’s phone call to explain why he failed to show up in the region.
But, his campaign manager identified as Jackson Katende said that Mwesigye was unable to make it to Kigezi because he has not rescheduled his campaign programme after suspension of his campaigns following the arrest and detention of National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential flag bearer Robert Kyagulanyi.
Katende says that before the end of this week, Mwesigye will resume his campaign trail.
The arrest of Kyagulanyi over allegations of flouting Covid-19 Standard Operating Procedures forced some candidates such as Alliance for National Transformation, presidential candidate, Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu, independent candidate John Katumba, Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde of Renewed Uganda, Independent Willy Mayambala and Democratic Party (DP) presidential candidate Norbert Mao to suspend their campaigns.
According to the Election Commission program, Mwesigye is expected to campaign in the districts of Bushenyi, Ishaka and Sheema on Wednesday this week.
