Over 850 turn up for free health services in Lweza

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Over 850 Ugandans have attended a two-day free health camp organized by the Lweza Community Health Program in Ssaabagabo Makindye sub-county, Makindye division.

Rose Kiwanuka, a retired Palliative Care nurse and the Executive Director of the Lweza Community Health Program, emphasized to journalists that the 5th edition of the health camp aimed to educate people on health-seeking behaviors, encouraging them not to wait until they experience pain before seeking medical assistance.

Kiwanuka highlighted that the introduction of annual health camps in Lweza encourages community members to monitor their health regularly, enabling early detection of emerging health issues for prompt treatment.

She mentioned that the two-day health camp aimed to assist 800 people, a target they have exceeded. Additionally, they aspire to serve as a model community by promoting primary healthcare and ensuring community members’ health and productivity.

Alex Kintu Brandon, Chairman of the NRM Caucus in Parliament and Member of Parliament for Kagoma constituency, commended the Lweza community for prioritizing health to create a healthy environment.

He pledged to advocate for government and Ministry of Health support for community-based programs addressing health concerns.

Among the services provided at the health camp were Tuberculosis and Cancer screening from the Cancer Institute, dental services, eye care from Namirembe Hospital, Palliative Care, Blood testing, Nutrition care, among others.
