Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | More than 600 staffs of Makerere University have missed their October Salary after a technical error, Charles Barugahare, the University Secretary has said.

URN has learnt that all staff invoices for October 2018 were uploaded on the Integrated Financial Management System – IFMS on October 20, 2018. However, due to a technical error, which was not explained in detail, some staff invoices were not processed.

Barugahare regretted the inconvenience caused by the glitch, in circular released on Monday afternoon to staff webmail. Barugahare said that a team identified all unprocessed salary invoices and loaded them for payment today. “We expect those payments to be cleared by November 1st,” he added.

“Other staffs were paid on Thursday last week. But I am among the staffs who missed the salary. We don’t have a clear explanation but the University Secretary has written, and we have been promised to be paid next month,” a source told URN in a phone interview.

Prof. William Bazeyo, the Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Finance and Administration has equally apologized for the anomaly.

“We have followed up this but found all documents from Makerere were perfect and were received well at Ministry of Finance. But the people at the ministry say they also were shocked how this happened as it had no organized or recognizable order,” he said.

He, however, added that the error has been corrected and the list resubmitted after checking that the system would not double pay after the second entry. He is optimistic that salaries will be posted as soon as possible.
