Oguttu, Birigwa and Ekanya also face treason charges

Forum For Democratic Change (FDC) party officials will appear at the Special Investigations Department tomorrow to record statements in relation to the video that showed former presidential candidate Kizza Besigye swearing in.

Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga said FDC party officials Wafula Oguttu, Geoffrey  Ekanya and Wasswa Birigwa were to appear before the Special Investigations Unit at Kireka to record statements related to charges of misprision of treason.

Police summoned the officials on Saturday for aiding and abetting Besigye to allegedly commit acts of treason. Police say they witnessed Besigye take the oath of presidency and failed to disclose such acts to proper authority within reasonable time.

Former FDC Flag bearer Col. Kizza Besigye, charged with treason at Moroto Chief Magistrate’s Court last Friday, was today transferred to Luzira Maximum Prison in Kampala. His case was adjourned to May 25.

Police say preliminary investigations indicate that the video was shot at Kasangati, at Besigye’s residence during the electoral period but was subsequently released on social media on the eve of the official swearing in and inauguration ceremony of President Museveni at Kololo Independence grounds.

Enanga said, “All who were involved and took part of the illegal act showcased in the video footage will be summoned by police and operatives have been put in place to closely monitor the actions and movements of the party leaders”
