Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT |Β Β Godfrey Nsubuga maintained his grip on the lead at the 82nd Johnnie Walker Uganda Golf Open Championship at the Kitante course Thursday, returning a score of 3-under-par par 69 as he took a 7 stroke lead into Friday’s penultimate round.

“I didn’t start strongly like Day 1, but I stabilzed my game over the course,” Nsubuga said, adding “I strongly believe in my game and I believe I can win this Open. I am confident of myself..”

The Mehta Golf Club and Uganda Golf Club member sunk birdies on holes 3,5,8,9,11 and 15 today, according to a press release by the Uganda Golf Union. He has sunk a stunning12 birdies over 2 rounds, with an eagle.

Ibrahim Bagalana, is 6 shots off the pace, while 2021 winner Joseph Cwinyaai, played even with 144 gros,s to stay within sight of the top two.

Michael Tumusiime, runner up in 2021Β  is 2 over par 146 , with Joseph Kanolera 4 over at 148. Last year’s winner Andrew Sekibejja, is 16 over par and out of contention.

The top 10 best amateurs will also automatically qualify for the Uganda Pro Open next week.
