Namulonge, Uganda | PHILLIP CORRY | The Mary Louis Simkins Memorial Golf Club, Namulonge Open will this year “Go Green” according to anchor sponsors Equity Bank.
The sponsors committed their sponsorship and cause to protect the environment and donate 10,000 trees to the 9 course facility on the outskirts of Kampala. They will plant trees on various areas of the fairways and near the greens.
“Our commitment and sponsorship with this club has been long and we will continue support the development of this club but at the same time work on protecting the environment of this club,” Samuel Kirubi, the Managing Director of the regional bank said in a statement.
“Equity and golf share a culture centered on professionalism integrity, innovation, respect and unity of purpose.”

The two-day tournament on Friday and Saturday will see the gross players playing 36 holes over two days. The subsidiary event will be an18 hole contest on Saturday.
The mode of play is Stroke Play and has attracted clubs from Lugazi, Jinja, Lira, Arua, Uganda Golf Club, Entebbe Club, Palm Valley Club, Mbarara Sports Club, Mbale Sports Club, West Nile Golf Club and the host club.
Close to 140 golfers are expected to participate over the two days of action.
Last year’s overall winner is Marvin Kibirige, who is now a professional.
The tournament is co-sponsored by NBS Sport, Pepsi Uganda, Fakhruddin Properties, Kachain Logistics and is a Uganda Golf Union sanctioned tournament.
