Kyankwanzi, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Uganda Development Bank has appealed to corporate organizations for more support towards the National Leadership Institute (NALI) Kyankwanzi.
The Bank’s Managing Director, Patricia Ojangole says the institute plays an important role in national development.
Ojangole says it may be hard for one to appreciate the role of the institute popularly known as Kyankwanzi until when they participate in some of its training programs.
She said when she was at such trainings last year, she realized that Kyankwanzi offers knowledge that will not be gotten anywhere in Uganda and yet it is vital for personal, corporate, and national development.
She was at the Institute on Friday to hand over a consignment of furniture donated by the Uganda Development Bank to the Institute. The consignment consisted of library desks, computer desks, and waiting room desks all valued at 45 million shillings.
The institute which largely focuses on providing ideological direction to Ugandans to enable them to “regain their patriotic power, freedom, and independence” has a library and computer laboratory; however, both facilities have been inadequately used because they were not furnished.
“NALI is a center of knowledge and excellence engaged in extensive research for development. The two components require a fully functional and equipped library and computer laboratory services for effective operation,” said Ojangole.
Brig. Charles Kisembo, the Director NALI appreciated UDB for responding to their need for upgrading their facilities, which would help in handling the more than 7,000 trainees every year.
“We have been previously challenged as our students and the men in uniform would have to sit on the floor while doing their research or leisure reading. This comfort, I believe, will greatly enhance the quality of learning and improve efficiency among the facilitators,” he said.
He added that the equipment would go a long way in improving the institute’s research function.
Kisembo appealed to UDBL to help them design a commercial project that the bank could then finance, to make NALI less dependent on government resources.
He added that there is still a lot that is needed to ensure proper training including furnishing the well-stocked library as currently most of the books are kept on the floor due to the absence of shelves.
