Nakasongola DISO accused of vandalising gov’t vehicles

Nakasongola, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT |  The Nakasongola District Internal Security Officer Samuel Alasamu Akankwasa is in trouble over alleged vandalism of district vehicles.

Nakasongola Central Police Station is investigating the DISO and others for vandalizing cars belonging to Nakasongola district before stealing its parts.

On Saturday, Akankwasa narrowly survived being shot by Police officers who were guarding Nakasongola district headquarters. He was allegedly found attempting to vandalize government cars parked at the district headquarters.

It is reported that the incident occurred at 3:00 am in wee hours on Saturday morning when the Policeman nearly pulled the trigger against DISO who only survived after he pleaded and surrendered. 

The Nakasongola District Police Commander Denis Musinguzi confirmed investigations in the incident but declined to divulge into details.

By the time the incident occurred several district cars had been vandalized leaving some grounded and others in poor condition. Some of the vehicles vandalized are district water bowser truck and pick up number UG 2718 R. Several computers have also been stolen from district headquarters at night.

The Nakasongola LCV Chairman Lt Sam Kigula and Chief Administrative Officer Chief Administrative Officer Robert Abenaitwe said the incident was regrettable. He added that the matter is being handled it administratively before declining to divulge into details of the incident.

URN Reporter has learnt that following the incident, the Internal Security Organization has transferred Akankwasa to Nwoya district.

Major Steven Omogga the Northern Buganda Deputy Regional Internal Security said that Akankwasa was no longer under his jurisdiction before declining to divulge into the matter.

A number of District Internal Security Officers have been arrested over crimes which include defilement, extortion, theft of government drugs, abduction among other criminal acts. 

The latest incident occurred was in March when the State House Anti-Corruption Unit arrested the Lira District Internal Security Officer, Gilbert Mwinyi for alleged extortion and corruption.

He was picked up for allegedly pocketing a bribe of Shillings 2 million to block the arrest of Boniface Odora Olwa, a senior accountant under Lira District Local Government.
