Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje has sacked Sheikh Abdul-Aziz Hussein, the northern region assistant to the Mufti for alleged incompetence and appointed Sheikh Musa Khalil in an acting capacity.

Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, who was on an official tour in the Lango region on Monday noted that Sheikh Abdul-Aziz Hussein has not been actively involved in developing and uniting the Muslim community in Lango.

He accused Sheikh Abdul-Aziz Hussein of mismanaging Muslim properties in Lango thus causing more confusion other than promoting development, peace, love, and unity which are the core objectives of his tenure as the Mufti.

He went ahead to order that all properties belonging to Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) should revert to their rightful owner. Adding that there should be peace and development, especially for Lango muslim district, which he says has suffered a lot right from the Lord’s Resistance Army insurgencies.

Hajj Ramathan Mugalu, the UMSC General Secretary explained that the council has lost a lot of properties because of leaders who work for their selfish gains. He then tasked the Lango Muslim Council to nominate trusted leaders for the forthcoming elections.

Sheik Abdul-Aziz Hussein told URN in an interview on phone in Kampala that Mufti’s visit and pronouncement in Lango has no effect on him because he is still the Regional Assistant to the Mufti as stipulated in their constitution.

The Mufti, who visited the Northern Muslim Regional Administration and found all the property including furniture missing ordered for immediate investigation starting with the Imam of the Iddi Amin mosque, which hosts the office. Earlier on, the Mufti inspected Muslim properties including health centers, schools, and mosques, before he held a meeting with Lango Muslim leaders at Iddi Amin Mosque in Lira city.
