MPs inspect KCCA projects

By Aloysious Kasoma

Members of Parliament on Local Government Committee took a day off to move around some parts of the city to inspect different projects done by Kampala Capital City Authority.

The MPS however were not convinced with the quality of the work done by the authority in the city and challenged the KCCA official to explain further on some of the projects of which they demand further explanation regarding the accountability.

KCCA team and the MPs this Friday inspected properties including former Tinyefuza house on Mabua road, Mayor’s House on Sezibwa road, Kafumbe Mukasa road, the City mortuary in Mulago and garbage collection in Kiteezi.

The MPs have decided to come up with a joint report, which will be released soon.

The legislators questioned KCCA after discovering that the controversial Sezibwa house was detention centre for confiscated properties from the vendors and impounded vehicles

According to the committee Chairperson Florence Kintu, they were surprised by the findings and wondered how things are done by KCCA.

“The situation is bad, KCCA has a lot to do but we are going to sit and come with a report to recommend what to do” she said

Kintu blamed the manner in which the Deputy Executive Director treated them yet they need her guidance in the inspection exercise.

“The staff of KCCA are not co-operative, the Deputy ED has left her responsibilities to attend to other people” she complained.

The Deputy Executive Director Dr. Judith Tumusiime Tukahirwa was against the idea by the MPs to inspect Kafumbe Mukasa road but rather go to Kiteezi which then led to the MPs getting very suspicious.
