Fort Portal, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT |  The Minister of Local Government, Raphael Magyezi, has pledged the ministry’s support to Tooro kingdom development projects.

Magyezi made the promise on Monday after touring some of the projects that the kingdom is undertaking in Fort Portal Tourism City. The kingdom officials requested for support from the minister.

The Kingdom Prime Minister, Bernard Tungakwo, said they want to undertake a number of projects including establishing model farms in all the districts in the kingdom, but they are lacking the funds and the technical support.

Edward Kasaija, the Tooro Kingdom Youth Minister, told Magyezi in a meeting that was held at the Kingdom’s Supreme Council chamber at Mucwa, Fort Portal, that they have a Youth Centre that is still poorly equipped.

Kasaija explained that the centre, which is under the kingdom is currently equipping the youth with skills in performing arts and music, visual arts, craft making and youth mentorship among others.

He, however, added that they are still financially constrained to add other courses like wielding, carpentry and joinery, tailoring and design.

The kingdom Lands Minister, Polly Kateeba told the minister that they have incomplete projects like the Nakaseke park and Kacwamba Market land both in Central Division, Fort Portal, where they need the ministry’s input in developing them.

The minister, who had been invited by the Tooro king, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, said the ministry is so willing to be a kingdom’s development partner and he will be sending technical people to assess the projects that are underway for support.

He, however, asked the leaders to stop the rampant clashes, saying they can affect the planned development of the area.
