Lightning strikes three children dead in Bundibugyo

Bundibugyo, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Lightning has killed three children and injured four others in Bundibugyo district. The incident occurred on Thursday evening during a heavy downpour.

The children have been identified as Joan Kabugho aged 11 years, the brother Joas Bwambale 4 years, and Patience Masika 14 years. They were struck while processing palm at Bundubutoro I village, Kirumya sub county.

Sarah Mbambu, one of the residents says that when it started raining, the children took shelter under a tree. She adds when they heard a thunderbolt, they found the children lying on the ground. She adds that they managed to offer First Aid but the three had already died.

The lightning also injured four residents who are undergoing treatment at Bundibugyo hospital.

Abraham Bamwitirebye, the LC3 chairperson Kirumya sub county asked parents to be vigilant and protect their children during the rainy season.
