Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Commission of Inquiry into Land Matters has summoned Lands, Housing and Urban Development Minister, Betty Amongi over allegations that she is involved in the mismanagement of the Land Fund.

The summons signed by the Commission’s Acting Secretary, Dr. Douglas Singiza requires Amongi to appear before the commission on Monday.

“You are hereby commanded by the Commission to appear before it on 7th day of May 2018 at 09.00 hrs to record your statement and thereafter give testimony at 12:00 hrs at the land Commission of inquiry offices…” partly reads the summons

The criminals summons according to Dr. Singiza comes after failure by Betty Amongi to respond to earlier summons.

She is required to explain land-related dealings by her company registered as AMOBET Investments Limited. Amongi reportedly owns 66% shares in a company she co-owns with one Cate Odongo.

The Company is in the storm for allegedly trying to grab property under the Departed Asians Custodian Board.

Tashak Partel, one of the claimants of the property at plot 29 Acacia avenue in Kampala told the Justice Bamugemereire Commission that Amongi has been trying to use her position as the line Minister to grab the property valued at over five billion shillings. The Minister has allegedly been involved into disputes related to the same property.

  1. They say “a good name is better than unscrupulous wealth”! I think it is high time Hon Jimmy Akena prevailed over his wife, Hon Amongi. Otherwise, her treachery, greed and covetousness of neighbors properties is getting out of control, and damaging the modest reputation and image of Obote’s (RIP) family.
