Kiggundu approves Butaleja Woman Representative by-elections

The electoral commission has today approved the electoral programme for the by-elections of the Butaleja District woman representative.


Badru Kiggundu, the chairperson, electoral commission said it is required of the electoral commission by law to approve the electoral programme following the death of an honourable member like the case is in Butaleja.

He said that they are not going to tolerate any fundraising activities in Butaleja during the by-election because they want to create a leveled ground for all candidates in the race rich or poor.

Kiggundu warned against foul language during campaigns and law breakers during the elections that they will be dealt with accordingly.

He said a stakeholders meeting will be held on Jan 4 at the Butaleja District health boardroom and the issues to be discussed will be on preparedness and understanding of the programme of the by-elections.

Butaleja as a District has 87,641 registered voters and 151 polling stations and Kiggundu said their will be need to update the voters registers which he said will take place between Jan 5-6 within each parish in the district.

He said voters registers will be displayed on Jan 21-30 in all the polling stations in Butaleja district and voting will take place on Feb 11 at all polling stations in Butaleja District.
