Inspector of Police in West Nile set free after facing allegations of aggravated defilement

Arua, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT |  Inspector of Police (IP) Thomas Otim, the head of the Professional Standards Unit in the West Nile Region has been released from detention because of insufficient evidence implicating him in allegations of aggravated defilement. Otim was locked up at The Arua Central Police Station on Tuesday last week for allegedly defiling a daughter of Dr. Charles Madrama, the West Nile Regional Police Surgeon, who is stationed at Arua Central Police Barracks.

The alleged incident took place on October 9, 2023, at Arua Central Police Barracks in Police cell, Bazar Ward, Arua Central Division, Arua City.

Josephine Angucia, the West Nile Police Spokesperson, says that Otim was released from Arua Central Police Station (CPS) cells on Monday. She says that the decision came after the Resident State Attorney advised that the case file be closed due to insufficient evidence when it was forwarded for perusal and legal advice.
