Goalless draw leaves Express, SC Villa title hopes in balance

By UPL co ug

Express 0-0 SC Villa

The highly anticipated Kampala Derby between rivals Express and SC Villa ended in a barren stalemate at Mutesa II stadium, Wankulukuku’s soggy pitch Tuesday.

In a game watched a mammoth crowd, the two sides knew that nothing short of maximum points would leave their faint hopes of winning the league this season in balance.

At the end of the day, a draw left Express with a minimal chance but must win their remaining games with bigger margins and hope KCCA and Vipers fail in their remaining two games as well.

With 49 points, the Red Eagles best finish can only be 55 same as KCCA who lead the 16 standings.

Like Express, SC Villa must also win their remaining six games and pray KCCA and Vipers falter to tie on 55 as well thus call in goal difference to separate them from the Kasasiro.

Wasswa Bbosa, the Express tactician admits the race is over for his side but thanked his players for a spirited performance all season.

“I must thank my players,” he told upl.co.ug after the game. “They have put up a spirited performance today (Tuesday) and the entire season. The title race now seems out of our reach but we shall keep on fighting in our last three games,” he added.

SC Villa stand in Captain Henry Katongole welcomed a point that leaves his side stuck in 10th.
“We played well despite the fact that the ground was poor. We played to plan game plan and a point isn’t bad at all for us.”

What next?

Express don’t return to action until May 24 when they host rivals KCCA at the same venue while SC Villa take on Soana at Nakivubo on Friday May 13 before visiting URA two days later at Mehta Ground, Lugazi.
