FDC in fundraising drive for Rukungiri candidate

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Opposition Forum for Democratic Change-FDC party supporters in Rukungiri district have embarked on a fundraising for Betty Muzanira, a candidate for Rukungiri district Woman Member of parliament seat.

According to Rukungiri Municipality Member of Parliament, Roland Mugume Kaginda, the decision was taken by FDC members in the district to ensure that their candidate is fully facilitated to move and campaign in all parts of the district.

Kaginda, who is also the Rukungiiri District FDC party chairperson says that the voters have already raised 24 million shillings and will continue to raise more money ahead of the by-elections slated for 31st May 2018. Kaginda says that their target is to raise 200 million shillings.

Patrick Batuma a businessman in Rukungiri town and a staunch FDC supporter says that they have embarked on mobilizing their friends in the district, Kampala and the entire country to mobilize resources for their candidate.

The fundraising drive comes barely days after president Museveni donated cash and Items worth 5 billion shillings to groups in the district. The items included; vehicles, motorcycles and carpentry machinery, among others.

Opposition politicians accused the President for using the items to rally support for the National Resistance Movement- NRM party candidate Winnie Mastiko.

The seat for Rukungiri Woman Member of Parliament fell vacant last month after Muzanira successfully challenged the election of Mastiko as the woman MP for Rukungiri district.
