Soroti, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Democratic Party-DP has launched what it describes as a permanent campaign in Teso sub region, six months after Uganda’s general elections.

Norbert Mao, the President General of Uganda’s oldest party says that the campaign is meant to identify problems faced by the people of Teso sub region.

Mao, a former presidential candidate for the 2021 general elections says that the party is on a crusade for the shared prosperity of reconciling Uganda and forming a new consensus.

Key among the issues cited by Mao include improving the quality of education, health especially the overhaul of Soroti Regional Referral Hospital and streamlining security.

According to Mao, Teso’s academic giants like Teso College Aloet and Arapai Agricultural College now under Busitema University used to compete nationally but have recently diminished from the top academic giants.

Mao now rallies Teso leaders to invest more into education especially the teacher training colleges and infrastructure.

On health, Mao said that Teso is now the hotbed of COVID-19 following numerous cases being managed at Soroti Regional Referral Hospital.

He said the government needs to put up monitoring systems and testing equipment to help the region trace and treat COVID-19 patients. Between 1st-21st August, Teso sub-region registered 303 COVID-19 cases.

Soroti registered the highest number with 90 cases, followed by Kalaki and Kumi with 77 and 68 cases respectively, according to the Ministry of Health daily updates.

Mao added that as a party, DP will help the region with seeds for planting and legal aid clinic to help residents annexed to Soroti city access justice in case of land grabbers.

Jovan Peter Odikor, the FDC Secretary-General in Soroti says DP has taken a good move that he described as a wakeup call for other parties.

Only DP and the Alliance for National Transformation party leaders have returned to Teso to assess how their parties performed in the general elections.

DP however says they are going to set up an office in Amuria district that will cater for northern Teso to empower the communities there.
