D-Day in Kadaga versus Oulanyah race

Entebbe, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT |  Close to 24 hours after the Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the ruling party NRM converged at State House Entebbe to pick a flag bearer in elections of Speaker for parliament, a decision is yet to be made.

CEC’s choice of speaker and deputy speaker is expected to be announced early this morning, but the delay confirms how close the race is between Rebecca Kadaga who is seeking another term, and her deputy Jacob Oulanyah.

“Unfortunately, there was no white smoke yesterday in the race for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker. Let us keep our fingers crossed and hope that today CEC concludes this matter,” said National Resistance Movement party director of communications Emmanuel Dombo.

The CEC decision will be followed by a formal election through secret ballot at the NRM Parliamentary caucus.

The hundreds of NRM Members and some Independents, are scheduled to arrive at 8am at State House, and will find their CEC still in session.
