Court gives MP Babirye 15 days to explain land dispute

Kampala,Uganda | GODFREY SSALI | Buikwe District woman MP Judith Babirye has been summoned by the Commercial Court to file a defence in fifteen days, explaining why she unlawfully sold a piece of land in Kitende twice.

A one Joseph Ojok dragged the Legislator to court seeking orders compelling her to refund his 140 million shillings being partial payment he made to her in 2013 for purchase of the said land.

Court documents show that the contentious land is located on block 383 plot 9660 at Kitende -Kawoto in Busiro County, Wakiso district valued at 220 million shillings.

Ojok argues that before the expiry of his purchase agreement with the MP, Babirye allegedly sold -off the land to a second buyer and refused to refund Ojok’s partial payment .

Ojok now contends that the legislator’s actions have caused him untold loss, as efforts to recover his money from her have yielded no results, prompting him to seek court’s intervention.
