CID officer arrested over alleged defilement

Napak, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Napak police are holding one of their own for allegedly defiling a primary four pupil of Kapuwat primary school in Iriiri sub-county. The suspect is Joseph Odeke, the Officer in Charge of Criminal Investigations at Iriiri police station. He was picked up on Sunday after the girl’s parents lodged a complaint at the police station.

Micheal Longole, the Mt. Moroto Region Police Spokesperson confirmed the development, saying the police take all allegations against their own seriously. According to Longole, the officer allegedly defiled the 15-year-old girl in August this year.

He said that police has dispatched a team of investigators to handle the matter to its logical conclusion and appealed to the community in Iriiri to cooperate with them and provide whatever information they can. The victim’s father, Muhammad Lomong, says that he learned of the crime late since he has been up and down fending for his family.

“I would have reported this matter as early as it had happened if I had noticed. My daughter was fearing me thinking I would beat her when she tells me,” he said. Peter Nangiro, a resident of Iriiri appealed to the police to do their best to deter other officers from committing a similar crime.
