Candidates in Rubanda flout Covid-19 SOPs

Rubanda, Uganda |  THE INDEPENDENT |   Candidates in Rubanda district on Thursday flouted the Covid-19 preventive guidelines during the nomination exercise. 

According to the nomination guidelines issued by the Electoral Commission, the candidates are supposed to wear masks, have a manageable number of people who can social distance and sanitize. 

At the district council hall where the exercise was conducted, the aspirants were seen wearing their masks below the chins while seated inside the nomination centre. 

They include Evelyn Ninsiima Kikafunda candidate for Rubanda district Woman Member of Parliament seat, Dezi Christmas, Rubanda District National Resistance Movement (NRM) Administrator, Henry Ariganyira Musasizi, the incumbent MP Rubanda East County and Jasper Ayebare who is also contesting on Rubanda County seat as the National Unity Platform (NUP) flag bearer. 

Some journalists who were covering the nominations also failed to observe physical distancing while interviewing candidates. 

Kikafunda admitted that she had won the face mask below her chin because it inconveniences her while breathing.
