New Season Sparks Excitement as Uganda’s Heavyweights Prepare for Early Tests

While many clubs have been given until mid-August 2026 to ensure they are meeting stadium standards set forth by FUFA and the Professional Clubs League (PFL), a number of clubs are yet to meet those requirements and therefore will not be factored into the full fixture list until they do.
“This is part of FUFA’s continued efforts to ensure the professionalization of Ugandan football,” reads a statement on the FUFA website. “Any team found playing in facilities below the set standards risks being dropped from the league.”
Title Race Begins with Vipers SC
To nobody’s surprise, Vipers SC are hot favorites to defend their league title and with good reason. Their sustained excellence in recent years has seen them set the standard for Ugandan club football, but that won’t stop the chasing pack from attempting to topple Uganda’s most successful club.
Opening their campaign against UPDF will provide an early chance to signal their intentions, but as we all know, in the Uganda Premier League anything can happen. Impose themselves early and Vipers could well find themselves in the driver’s seat once again.
Traditional Giants Eye Return to the Summit
