AU elections suspended to 2017

The election of  chairperson is South Africa’s Dlamini Zuma’s successor has been suspended after none of the three running candidates attained the required two thirds of the vote.

In a dramatic morning session of the 27th AU summit in Kigali, 28 members absconded from voting.

Former Uganda and first female Vice President Specioza Kazibwe is in the running against Foreign Minister of Equatorial Guinea, Agapito Mba Mokuy and Botswana’s Dr Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi.
