Africa Now Summit 2019 – WHAT TO EXPECT

A recent Africa Now session. Focus turns to Munyonyo for the 2019 dialogue.

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Africa Now Summit 2019 slated for March 12th and 13th at the Commonwealth Hotel in Munyonyo comes at a time when there are socioeconomic changes both within Africa and globally.

Africa Strategic Leadership Centre (ASLC), organizers of the much anticipated summit are taking the opportunity to augment these changes through improved dialogue on policy matters of great urgency that must be addressed, through viable and sustainable public-private dialogue initiatives.

And besides the list of distinguished speakers including 5 Heads of State, CEOs of African and multinational companies and foreign investors – here’s more of what to expect at the inaugural summit.

Under the theme, Towards a secure, Integrated and growing Africa, the conference aims to harness the interminable energy of the African youth in forging a secure, integrated and growing Africa. Building effective Youth-Business Alliances is critical for growing economies, generating opportunities to address youth employment, as well as building and sustaining innovation, creating knowledge based economies and building the future of Africa, starting now.

This High- Level meeting is set to capture a diversity of ideas and views of the participants through presentations, interactive plenary sessions and sideline meetings that reflect the key thematic areas of conference. These sessions will be moderated by the likes of BBC’S Allan Kasujja, Professor Eddy Maloka – CEO APRM Secretariat, Irene Ikomu –a Ugandan Lawyer & Strategy Consultant, Ambassador Adonia Ayebare, Representative to Uganda Mission to the United Nations, Her Excellency Rosa Malango – Coordinator One UN, Uganda and Dr. Nansonzi Muwanga – Member, Board of Directors Africa Strategic Leadership Centre.

The opening sessions on Day 1 themed “The Leadership Needed to Catalyze Africa’s Socio-Economic Transformation” and “Forging a Future that works for Africa’s Youth” will be attended by influential youth leaders with the participation of Five (5) African Heads of State, business leaders and Civil Society.

ASLC Board chairman, Dr. Robert Mwesigwa says it is expected that the sessions on Day 2 of the conference, themed, “Pan-African Solutions to Contemporary African Challenges” and “Connecting to the Digital Economy; Opportunities for Employment and Wealth Creation” focusing on the Digital Economy will attract over 300 world class experts, policy makers, industry CEOs and youth entrepreneurs.

”A broad range of key public and private sector participants are expected to discuss the “open business” agenda. This will build African Youth-Business Alliances and exploring investment opportunities in tourism, the agro-economy and construction,” Dr. Mwesigwa adds.

The final session, themed, “Achieving Partnerships for Solutions; Tackling Barriers to Intra-African Trade and Investment” will consolidate the existing frame works on implementing continental regional integration. The sited objective is to develop a common plan of action for post-conference activities. All of the sessions led by 26 guest speakers will identify and unpack opportunities for youth inclusiveness in the new African Economy.

In conclusion, Uganda should in the Africa Now summit expect a platform to provide access to influential movers and shakers in the digital economy in Africa and the global economy, to hear from youth influencers, policy makers and corporate decision makers on the next generation business models for emerging entrepreneurs, to connect youth entrepreneurs with investors from across the African continent and other emerging markets from all over the globe and the timely opportunity to unravel policy and regulatory barriers to key African markets and making the right connections to ease entry into these markets, visits to Uganda’s tourism sites, with some of the most beautiful outdoor scenery and wildlife anywhere in the world.
