38 crime intelligence police officers reshuffled

Uganda Police

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | At least 38 policemen and women attached to the Crime Intelligence Unit have been transferred.

In the transfer messages issued by Assistant Commissioner of Police-ACP Emmanuel Muheirwe, majority of the crime intelligence officers have been posted to upcountry police divisions and stations.

Ten of them are at the rank of Inspector of Police-IP while 28 others are at Assistant Inspector of Police -AIP. They include Martin Tukahebwa who is moved from Ntinda police station to Bundibugyo, Wilson Wenamanya from Kisoro to Bwera, Abel Twijukye from Isingiro to Katwe-Kabatooro, Enock Atukunda from Rukungiri to Hima and Henry Emuron from Kira division to Adjumani.

The others are Nicholas Onyango from North West Nile to Crime Intelligence headquarters, William Muhindo from Rukungiri to Kitagwenda, Samuel Kakimu from Bugiri to Busoga East region headquarters and Rogers Byamukama from Njeru to Kyegegwa.

The Crime Intelligence Unit of police is mandated with detecting crime. However, the police leadership is puzzled by the fact that criminal elements often plan their activities for days without being detected by the unit.

The dormancy of Crime Intelligence Unit has been cited as the reason criminal gangs could stay in slums and upscale areas without fear and execute heinous crimes like kidnaps, murders, robberies and fraud.  The unit is commanded by Assistant Commissioner of Police – ACP Thomas Kasiimo.
