20 cult members remanded in Kapchorwa

Grade One Magistrate Kwizera Vian has remanded Swaibu Sande and his followers.

Kapchorwa, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Grade One Magistrate Court in Kapchorwa has remanded twenty men suspected to be members of a cult. They appeared on Tuesday before Grade One Magistrate Kwizera Vian.

They were arrested last week for holding an illegal assembly and unlawful procession. The group led by Swaibu Sande, dressed in white outfits with walking sticks were intercepted while on the journey that started in Kapchorwa.

They intended to walk a distance of close to 80 Kilometres to Bukwo.

According to the prosecution, the members were planning to recruit people into subversive activities and that they were holding an illegal procession when they were intercepted by police.

The prosecution adds that in 2016, Sande allegedly provided charms to the armed group which raided Ngenge police post, leading to the death of four people.

Sande had been arrested over the Ngenge incident but was recently released.
