Yumbe , Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Seven people have been arrested for alleged malpractices in the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations.
Jennifer Kalule Musamba, UNEB’s Principal Public Relations, said the suspects include six teachers and an invigilator, who were arrested at Nampita Secondary School in Yumbe district.
Kalule identified the suspects as Julius Caesar Obbo, a teacher of economics, Josephine Angokoru a teacher of Biology, Boniface Ntibiringirwa, Godwin Wasswa, James Bamukabire, Emmanuel Okello, and Hussein Sadam.
“The invigilator Bosco Oryema and these six teachers while the examination was underway accessed the hall with power banks, smart phones, and a laptop under the pretext of charging them. This act was very suspicious to the scout causing her to report to the police. Initial investigations indicate that the smartphone for teacher Julius Obbo contained answers for the biology practical examination,” Kalule said.
UNEB Executive Director, Dan Nikorach, urged students not to be hoodwinked by people claiming to be having answers for the examinations. He also urged students and teachers to report any form of examination malpractice.
“Members of the public are therefore advised to desist from digital sharing of any such content. Any other suspected cases of examination malpractice should be reported to police or UNEB,” Nikorach said.
Kalulue also said that two candidates died in the first week of the exams. They are Edwin Wamutale of St Noah Mawagali SS Jinja and Celine Anne Namuwase of St Andrew Kaggwa, Gombe High in Kawaala. Both were battling sickle cell disease.
