THIS WEEK: Kayihura orders corruption probe in police

While at the pass-out at Police Marine Headquarters in Kigo Wakiso District on Aug22, Inspector General of Police Kale Kayihura called for a probe into the police. Kayihura who asked the professional standards unit to conduct investigations said they should start with the directorate of logistics and engineering and then the directorate of human resource development both housed at the headquarters in Naguru.

He said the laxity in professionalism and indiscipline are causing problems in the force which can be solved after a probe is done.

The police have not had a major audit since 1999 when a commission of inquiry by the lady Justice Julia Ssebuntinde found massive corruption which led to firing of some senior officials.
