THIS WEEK: IGG halts appointment of audit boss over irregularities
The Inspector General of Government (IGG) Irene Mulyagonja has halted the appointment of Fixon Akonye as Internal Auditor General over irregularities allegedly perpetrated by officials at Ministry of Finance.
The IGG received a complaint from the Public Service Commission a few weeks ago over influence peddling by some officials at Ministry of Finance regarding the appointment of the new internal audit general and kicked off investigations. The IGG wrote to the Public Service Commission calling for an independent recruitment process.
Mulyagonja said some candidates who had the requisite qualifications were not shortlisted and added that a number of recruitment procedures were flouted.
