Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | The Lands State Minister Dr. Sam Mayanja has closed Wakiso district zonal land offices, Busiro branch on allegations of fraud and mismanagement of land titles.

Mayanja says that he has been receiving complaints from people about the fraudulent transactions by staff at the land office and delayed issuance of titles to applicants without justifiable reasons.

The minister who inspected the offices on Wednesday afternoon found people’s titles lying on tables despite the computerized system introduced by the government to eliminate fraud.

As a result, he ordered the immediate closure of the offices and directed Jude Charles Wasswa, the principal assistant secretary Wakiso zonal office, to work with the head of the computerization system Grace Kagoro, to furnish him with a report on how they will manage the office once reopened.

Wakiso district LC V chairperson, Matia Lwanga Bwanika said that they are facing a big challenge when it comes to the zonal offices.

Justine Namande, a resident of Wakiso described Wakiso zonal offices as rotten, saying they issue duplicate titles to applicants fully signed by the registrars.
