UTL has potential to thrive again, says Libyan owners

The Chairman of Libyan Post, Telecommunications and Information Technology Holding Company Dr Faisel Gelgab has assured Parliament that Uganda Telecom (UTL) still has a future and that the company has a transformational plan that is going to significantly boost the company’s existing services. I am confident that UTL has significant potential and great opportunity within the world to provide high quality services.” Dr Gelgab said. He said this while meeting members of the select committee on UTL at the Dubai International Financial Centre recently. Hon Okin Ojara, (Ind Chua West) the committee chairperson explained to the meeting that the parliament select committee moved to Dubai to meet with the UTL majority shareholders and Board members whose offices are currently in Dubai. This is part of the committee’s investigation and fact finding mission which started after Budadidri West MP Nandala Mafabi reported to Parliament that UTL had mismanaged Shs700bn. Ojara asked the majority shareholders to confirm whether they still had interest in the company given the way they were handling transactions even when the company was on the verge of collapse.
