Uganda’s tax body, Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has published the names of organizations that have defaulted tax payments and has vowed to prosecute them if they do not clear their outstanding tax arrears within seven days.

Among the defaulting companies disclosed include; Luwero Industries with an outstanding arrears of Shs119, 874881, Kaba Contractors Ltd 411m, Kosign Limited 279m, Oyam Local government with Shs501m, Savanah General contractors (1997) Limited Shs846m, Mundua A Crispus Shs1.2bn,  Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium Shs388m, Mugisha Jude Ltd Shs422m to name but a few out of the listed 314 tax payers.

If these taxpayers do not comply the tax body is likely to lose Shs30.1 billion.

According to URA the taxpayers should report to the Debt Collection Unit, Legal Services and Board Affairs Department or URA in their respected offices to settle the said outstanding arrears.

The tax body says, “Whoever will not have cleared or entered into an agreeable repayment plan with URA by Thursday Jan 17 will be prosecuted or enforced upon without further notice.”

Many of Uganda’s tax payers are known for evading taxes, however, in recent years URA has been in position to realize a lot of money paid as tax.
