Moroto, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT | Two suspected Jie warriors have been killed in a fire exchange with the UPDF in Kotido district.

The exchange took place in Namaire Village in Kalosarich near Toror Hills in Panyangara Sub County yesterday afternoon.

According to the UPDF Spokesperson for 3rd Infantry Division, Capt. Edrin Mawanda, the government troops on usual patrol entered an ambush laid by the warriors in Namaire, but the army defeated the warriors killing two during fire exchange.

Capt. Mawanda says the UPDF over powered the group of warriors who were on a mission to raid in the general areas of Moroto district. They reportedly scattered in disarray and one gun was recovered from one of the warriors.

“Our forces entered an ambush by suspected Jie warriors who were on raid mission in the general areas of Namaire hills in Kotido district. Two warriors were killed and 1 gun recovered, one militant sustained injuries,” said Capt. Mawanda in a statement released on Saturday morning.

The warriors in Kotido and Kaabong have ambushed soldiers in Kaabong and Kotido districts several times over the years.

On Friday, the joint forces recovered four other guns. Two were recovered from Moroto district and another two recovered in Lodiko in Kaabong district, from a suspect who was under UPDF custody.
