Union gives Grace Nakimera Shs10 million boost ahead of ‘Power of Grace concert’

Kampala, Uganda | THE INDEPENDENT |  The Union Transport Alliance (UNION) has thrown its weight behind singer Grace Nakimera’s much-anticipated return to the stage with a Shs10 million sponsorship boost ahead of her ‘Power of Grace Live Concert’ scheduled for September 11 at Kampala Serena Hotel.

The announcement came during the high-profile launch of a strategic partnership between the Union Transport Alliance and the United Informal Sector Forum (UISF) at Hotel Africana, an event that brought together representatives from all 18 informal-sector categories, UNION leadership, stakeholders and the media. Under the theme “Tuliwamu – Building Uganda’s Invisible Economy Together”, the partnership aims to use the combined membership of both organisations to dominate the market, attract investment, create jobs and unlock affordable financing.

Nakimera, who graced the event and was overcome with joy, received the Shs10 million boost for her live concert. She will be marking one of her biggest performances since she stepped away from the music scene.

“I am deeply humbled to be joined by Union Transport Alliance for my concert. You have not only supported me as an artist but you have also stood with the hundreds of lives we touch through the Feed The Streets Foundation programs. The concert will blend her old hits, new music and support for vulnerable communities, with part of the proceeds going to the Feed the Streets Foundation.

The Union also announced an education initiative offering 100 full bursaries and 1,200 half bursaries for primary and secondary schools and also offered her Feed the Streets Foundation Union sanitary pads.

The Union Transport Alliance, which comprises leaders of the taxi, bus, boda boda and truck sectors across the country, has positioned itself as a commercial platform offering products ranging from ride-hailing services and bike loans to Union water, pads, smartphones, data bundles and oil. It has struck partnerships with key players in the banking, transport, telecom and digital sectors, including NSSF, MTN, Housing Finance Bank, Spiro and Next Media.

“With the partnership of the Union Transport Alliance and the Informal Sector Forum, growth of members is guaranteed,” Fred Ssenoga, Chief Executive Officer of the Union, said at Friday’s launch. “We can undertake various ventures to manufacture products for the market by harnessing the value of numbers, discipline, and systems within our Union.”

Nakimera’s concert, promoted as ‘The Power of Grace Live Concert’, will take place at Kampala Serena Hotel on September 11, 2026. Early-bird entry costs Shs130,000, ordinary tickets Shs150,000 and tables Shs3 million.
